What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is an open proposal (llmstxt.org): a plain text file at the root of your site that lists your most useful pages, with a one-line description each, in a format that is easy for a language model to read.
Think of it as a table of contents written for machines. Instead of making an assistant crawl your whole site, you hand it the pages that explain what you do, who you serve and what you sell.
An honest caveat: no major assistant has officially confirmed that it reads llms.txt when deciding who to recommend, and Google has said it doesn't use it. Some developer tools and documentation platforms do. It costs nothing and can't hurt, but treat it as a cheap bet, not a ranking guarantee.
llms.txt questions
Will llms.txt make ChatGPT recommend my business?
Not by itself. No major assistant has confirmed that it uses the file to decide who to recommend. What decides recommendations is whether AI can read your site, whether other trusted sources mention you, and whether your content answers customer questions.
Where do I put the file?
In the root of your domain, so it opens at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. On WordPress you can upload it to the site's root folder through your host's file manager or FTP.
How does the generator pick the pages?
It reads your homepage, follows your sitemap and internal links (respecting robots.txt), keeps up to 10 indexable pages and groups them into sections: main pages, products and services, guides and blog, company, and optional.
Does it store my site or my data?
No. We read your public pages to build the file and return it to you. Nothing about your site is saved.
My site loads content with JavaScript. Will it work?
Partly. We read the HTML your server sends, like most AI crawlers do. If your pages are empty until JavaScript runs, the file will be thin, and AI crawlers have the same problem. Run the AI readiness checker to see it.
